Registered Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is a hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body to achieve therapeutic response. Soft tissue includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and connective tissue. Massage therapy can be beneficial to our patients as either an individual modality or a treatment that is used in collaboration with chiropractic care or other health professionals. Our massage therapists use Swedish massage as the foundation of their treatments. However, they may incorporate a variety of therapies and techniques based on your clinical induction and primary concern. Including hydrotherapy (hot pack or ice etc.) myofascial release, deep tissue, facilitated stretching or trigger point therapy. Massage therapy is a method to help alleviate the soft tissue discomfort often associated with occupational stress, pregnancy aches, muscular overuse and chronic pain. Massage therapy can improve joint mobility, increase circulation, reduce muscular tension, improve lymphatic drainage and reduce or eliminate pain associated with trauma and injury. Massage therapy can also be used as part of a preventative maintenance program. This includes sports training, injury prevention, ongoing stress management or self-care. The therapist may suggest remedial and postural exercise recommendations to assist with your treatment plan. Our goals as therapists is to develop personalized treatment plans to benefit our clients’ individual needs with the goal of returning them back to sport, activities of daily living or maintaining a happy and healthy lifestyle.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain. Increasingly, it is being used for overall wellness, including stress management.
Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as chi or qi (chee) — believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will re-balance.
In contrast, many Western practitioners view the acupuncture points as places to stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue. Some believe that this stimulation boosts your body's natural painkillers.
